Will a longer runway bring aircraft closer and lower to our homes?
As a safety precaution, pilots try to land at the very beginning of a runway leaving plenty of
runway ahead for stopping. The North Runway will be extended 1800 feet to the west (towards Sawmill
Rd.) and 1200 feet to the east.
Pilots want plenty of asphalt in front of the aircraft to make necessary corrects and bring the
aircraft to a safe and complete stop. Since the proposed expansion lengthens the runway to the east
and west, aircraft will actaully be closer to bordering communities and neighborhoods as they
descend to land on the lengthened runway. Thus an expanded runway will put aircraft closer and
lower when coming in for a landing.
