WOOSE: ALLOW PUBLIC TO COMPLAIN ANONYMOUSLY

There have been inappropriate actions by those on both sides of the OSU airport issue. Though we do not believe these instances are representative of either side, the actions of a few can cause harm.

As cited in an August 30 article, OSU Airport student intern Stephanie Boyer says she has seen inappropriate comments from airport opponents. While we are not privy to everything the University has received, what we have seen shows comments made by the public pale in comparison to what WOOSE has received and what airport supporters have suggested.

The suggestion of retaliation by an airport staff member, the suggestion of ways to cause economic harm to airport opponents, and a message suggesting noisy fly-overs which contained such vulgarity that a sailor would blush -- these all cross the line. While these instancse are rare, the simple fact that these suggestions have been made should leave the community concerned.

It is for this reason There have been inappropriate actions by those on both sides of the OSU airport issue. Though we do not believe these instances are representative of either side, the actions of a few can cause harm.

It is for this reason WOOSE insists the public should have the choice to submit complaints anonymously. We have demonstrated to the University that their fears of abuse of the system simply do not exist in practice, and there are methods to enter into a dialog with community members while maintaining their anonymity.

We hope that both sides will act in a responsible and professional manner. However, remember that those who work for or operate out of the airport have made a choice to do so. Those of us on the ground subjected to the increasing problems of the airport have no such choice.
